Himarë is the one place on the central Riviera that is a town rather than a beach with houses behind it. The modern centre sits on the bay between Livadhi beach to the north and Potami to the south, with a small harbour, and the old stone quarter and castle look down from the hill above. Llamani and Gjipe are short drives away; Porto Palermo, with its bay and Ali Pasha's castle on the island, is just south.
For a buyer the town is the point. Himarë has a school, shops and a harbour that work all year, so it holds more life outside the season than Dhërmi or the smaller villages, while the beaches are as good. Prices sit in the Riviera range, and supply is small developer blocks and older houses rather than resort masterplans.

How Himarë compares
North of here, Palasa and Dhërmi are more dramatic and more seasonal. South, Sarandë is a bigger town with a ferry to Corfu and a longer season, and Ksamil has the strongest short-let demand and the highest prices. Himarë sits in the middle in every sense: a proper town on a very good coast, without the crowds or the top-of-market prices of Ksamil.

Is Himarë a good place to buy on the Riviera?
If you want to spend time there outside July and August, yes. It is the central Riviera's only real town, with services that run all year, and prices in the same €1,000 to €2,000 per m² band as the villages.
How do I get to Himarë?
From Vlorë, through the Llogara tunnel and down the coast road, roughly an hour. From Sarandë, about an hour north. Tirana airport is around three and a half to four hours by road.
